We begin our adventure with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, located in the southwestern region of Nepal. Upon arrival, we’ll have time to explore the bustling town, rest, and prepare for the upcoming trek. Nepalgunj is a gateway to the remote Dolpo region, and we will overnight here.
Day 2: Fly from Nepalgunj to Jhupal & Trek to Dunai

Highlights: Riverside trek to Dunai
In the morning, we take a flight from Nepalgunj to Jhupal, where we begin our trek. We will follow the riverbanks to reach Dunai, the administrative center of the Dolpo region. The village has a market, where we can explore the local culture. We stay overnight in Dunai.
Day 3: Trek from Dunai to Tarakot
Altitude: 2,540m
Trek Duration: 5-6 hours
Highlights: Walk through valleys and villages
Today’s trek follows the Bheri River, passing through small villages and monasteries. Tarakot is historically significant, once the capital of the Tichorung Kingdom. We will explore this ancient town before resting for the night.
Day 4: Trek from Tarakot to Laini Odar
Altitude: 3,375m
Trek Duration: 5-6 hours
Highlights: Views of Putha, Hiunchuli, and Churen Himal
Our trek today leads us through scenic landscapes with views of the towering Himalayan peaks. We pass through Laisicap and Kanigaon villages, making our way to Laini Odar, where we camp by a nearby waterfall.
Day 5: Trek from Laini Odar to Nawarpani
Altitude: 3,475m

Highlights: Beautiful gorges and mountain views
Today, we trek through deep gorges and rocky cliffs, with splendid views of Chhyugar and Toltol mountains. We will camp at Nawarpani, enjoying the tranquility and beauty of the surrounding nature.
Day 6: Trek from Nawarpani to Dho Tarap
Altitude: 3,950m
Trek Duration: 6-7 hours
Highlights: Cultural immersion in Dho Tarap
We trek along the Tarap Khola, passing through Ghyamghar and Langa villages. Dho Tarap, perched high above the valley, is known for its traditional Tibetan culture. We explore the local monasteries and prepare for a rest day tomorrow.
Day 7: Acclimatization Day at Dho Tarap
Altitude: 3,950m
Highlights: Visit ancient monasteries and enjoy the peaceful surroundings
We spend the day acclimatizing to the altitude by exploring the surroundings of Dho Tarap. We visit the 1,000-year-old Ringo Bumpa Monastery and other nearby monasteries. This is essential for adjusting to the higher altitudes ahead.
Day 8: Trek from Dho Tarap to Numa La Base Camp
Altitude: 4,350m
Trek Duration: 4-5 hours
Highlights: Pass through Tokyu Village and spectacular mountain views
Our trek today is a gradual climb, taking us past Tokyu Village to the Numa La Base Camp. We are rewarded with spectacular views of the local monastery, Sharing Gompa, and the surrounding peaks.
Day 9: Trek from Numa La Base Camp to Danighar via Numa La Pass
Altitude: 4,510m/5,310m
Trek Duration: 6-7 hours
Highlights: Cross Numa La Pass with panoramic views
Today, we tackle the challenging Numa La Pass, the highest point of our trek. The views from the pass are incredible, with sweeping vistas of Dhaulagiri, Norbu Kang, and Churen Himal. We descend to Danighar, where we camp for the night.
Day 10: Trek from Danighar to Temche via Baga La Pass
Altitude: 4,000m/5,170m
Trek Duration: 6-7 hours
Highlights: Stunning views of Phoksundo Lake and surrounding peaks
After a tough climb to Baga La Pass, we are rewarded with panoramic views of Norbung Lang Peak and Phoksundo Lake. We descend to Temche, where we camp and enjoy the serenity of the region.
Day 11: Trek from Temche to Phoksundo Lake
Altitude: 3,600m
Trek Duration: 5-6 hours
Highlights: Arrive at the breathtaking Phoksundo Lake
We trek down to Yak Kharka before ascending to the stunning Phoksundo Lake. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, the lake is one of the most beautiful sights on the trek. We camp by the lake and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Day 12: Explore Phoksundo Lake
Altitude: 3,600m
Highlights: Visit Bon monasteries and enjoy lake views
Today, we explore the area around Phoksundo Lake, which is famous for never freezing, despite its high altitude. We visit the Tibetan Ringmo Village and Bon monasteries, learning about the region’s unique spiritual heritage.
Day 13: Trek from Phoksundo Lake to Chhepka
Altitude: 2,838m
Trek Duration: 5-6 hours
Highlights: Trek through forests to Chhepka
We leave Phoksundo Lake behind as we trek through forests of birch, pine, and bamboo. The trail leads us to the village of Chhepka, where we rest for the night.
Day 14: Trek from Chhepka to Jhupal
Altitude: 2,499m
Trek Duration: 5-6 hours
Highlights: Cross traditional villages and cultivated fields
Today’s trek takes us through small villages and cultivated fields as we make our way back to Jhupal. We arrive in the village, where we can explore the local market and reflect on our incredible journey.
Day 15: Fly from Jhupal to Nepalgunj and to Kathmandu
Flight Duration: 35 minutes (Jhupal to Nepalgunj), 45 minutes (Nepalgunj to Kathmandu)
Highlights: Scenic flights back to Kathmandu, Special Farewell Dinner
After our trek, we fly from Jhupal to Nepalgunj and then catch a flight back to Kathmandu. The day marks the end of our Lower Dolpo Trek, and we return to the city with memories of an unforgettable journey in Nepal’s remote regions.

In Kathmandu, visit iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Pashupatinath Temple, a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site; Boudhanath Stupa, one of the world’s largest Buddhist stupas; and Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), offering panoramic valley views and a blend of Hindu-Buddhist heritage.
