15-Day Gokyo Lake via Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Fly from Kathmandu/Manthali to Lukla & Trek to Phakding

Our journey begins with an exciting flight to Lukla, offering breathtaking aerial views of the Himalayas. Upon landing, we meet our trekking team and begin our trek towards Phakding, following the Dudh Koshi River. Passing through lush landscapes, small villages, and suspension bridges, we enjoy a gentle introduction to the trek.

Day 2: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar

Today, we trek through dense forests, cross suspension bridges, and enter Sagarmatha National Park. The trail gradually ascends, leading us to Namche Bazaar, the vibrant Sherpa hub. Along the way, we catch our first distant glimpse of Mount Everest.

Day 3: Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar

To adjust to the altitude, we take a rest day in Namche. We can hike to Everest View Hotel for a stunning panorama of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam or explore the bustling town, visiting local markets, monasteries, and the Sherpa Museum.

Day 4: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Dole

Leaving the main Everest Base Camp route, we ascend toward the Gokyo Valley. The trail offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas as we pass through rhododendron forests and charming villages before reaching Dole.

  • Altitude: 4,200m

Day 5: Trek from Dole to Machhermo

Our journey continues along a high-altitude trail with fewer trees and more open landscapes. We pass yak pastures and small Sherpa settlements, eventually arriving in Machhermo, where we hear legendary tales of the Yeti.

Day 6: Trek from Machhermo to Gokyo

We follow the trail along the Dudh Koshi River, crossing streams and moraines before reaching the mesmerizing Gokyo Lakes. The sight of the turquoise lakes surrounded by towering peaks is a highlight of our trek.

Day 7: Acclimatization & Hike to Gokyo Ri

We take a rest day at Gokyo, but for those seeking adventure, we can hike to Gokyo Ri for a breathtaking sunrise view over Everest, Cho Oyu, and Makalu.

Day 8: Trek from Gokyo to Thangnak

We cross the Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in the Himalayas, navigating its rugged and shifting terrain. After a steady trek, we reach Thangnak, a small and quiet settlement.

  • Altitude: 4,700m

Day 9: Trek from Thangnak to Dzongla via Cho La Pass

One of the most challenging days awaits as we ascend Cho La Pass. The steep climb over snow and ice is demanding but offers spectacular views at the summit. A careful descent leads us to Dzongla.

Day 10: Trek from Dzongla to Lobuche

We follow a scenic trail with close-up views of Nuptse and Pumori. The terrain becomes rockier as we approach Lobuche, a small settlement near the Khumbu Glacier.

Day 11: Trek from Lobuche to Everest Base Camp & Back to Gorak Shep

Today, we reach our ultimate goal—Everest Base Camp! We walk along the glacier, passing towering icefalls before reaching the famous base camp. After celebrating our achievement, we return to Gorak Shep for the night.

Day 12: Hike to Kala Patthar & Trek to Pheriche

An early morning hike to Kala Patthar offers a breathtaking sunrise over Everest. After taking in the views, we descend through rocky trails to reach Pheriche, a lower-altitude village known for its serene landscape.

  • Kala Patthar Altitude: 5,555m
  • Ending Altitude: 4,250m

Day 13: Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar

Descending further, we retrace our steps through the stunning Himalayan landscapes, passing Tengboche Monastery before reaching the lively town of Namche Bazaar.

Day 14: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla

Our final trekking day takes us back through Sagarmatha National Park, crossing several bridges and forested trails before arriving in Lukla, where we celebrate the completion of our trek.

Day 15: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu

We take an early morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, offering breathtaking aerial views of the mountains we’ve trekked through. We then experience the contrast between the serene mountain air and the hustle of Kathmandu as our unforgettable Himalayan adventure concludes. Back in Kathmandu, we reflect on the incredible adventure and celebrate with a farewell dinner.

Itinerary Extension Option:

If you wish to explore more of Kathmandu, the itinerary can be extended to include additional days in the capital. In Kathmandu, visit iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Pashupatinath Temple, a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site; Boudhanath Stupa, one of the world’s largest Buddhist stupas; and Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), offering panoramic valley views and a blend of Hindu-Buddhist heritage.

Explore the historic Durbar Squares—Kathmandu Durbar Square, home to Hanuman Dhoka Palace and the Living Goddess Kumari; Patan Durbar Square, renowned for its Newari architecture and Krishna Mandir; and Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a medieval gem featuring Nyatapola Temple and vibrant pottery squares.
